Steven Gillon is a Portuguese-American composer whose work bridges contemporary classical and film music, blending minimalism with emotional depth. Born and raised in Lisbon, he began playing piano at sixteen and soon started composing his own music, a turning point that would shape his creative path.

Largely self-taught, Steven immersed himself in the language of composition through study and introspection, drawing inspiration from the spiritual minimalism of Arvo Pärt, the atmospheric worlds of Jóhann Jóhannsson, and the introspective poetry of Federico Mompou and Alexander Scriabin. His music weaves between intimate solo piano works and orchestral, cinematic compositions shaped by a minimalist sensibility.

In 2019, Steven released his debut album “Pequenas Inquietudes”, a collection of piano miniatures that marked the start of his career as a composer. The orchestral single “Desolatus” (2022) followed, revealing a more expansive and cinematic side to his writing. His second album, “9 Pieces for Childhood” (2024), written for piano and cello, continues his exploration of memory and innocence through minimal, emotionally charged compositions.

Alongside his solo work, Steven has been active as a film and television composer. Worked on several short films in the past, collaborating closely with emerging directors. Later, he composed the original score for the Portuguese television series “Roots & Fruits” (2023) and is currently working on the upcoming TV series “Viewfinder” directed by Emmy Award–winner Filipe Carvalho. New solo and collaborative projects are planned for release later this year.
